£1 Billion Insulation Scheme Launched In The UK

The Great British Insulation Scheme, launched recently by the government, is a £1 billion initiative to help hundreds of thousands of families slash their energy bills. With over 300,000 households in England, Scotland and Wales looking to benefit from insulation upgrades such as roof, loft, or cavity wall insulation. 

 

As the UK currently has some of the worst-insulated housing in Europe, this initiative is intended to bring the UK up to better standards. The government predicts that this scheme could save each household around £300-£400 per year on their energy bills. 

 

The scheme is particularly directed at those who find themselves in lower council tax bands with less energy-efficient homes, making it easier for those on the lowest incomes to get access to much-needed support. Those eligible for support under the scheme include families in council tax bands A-D in England, A-E in Scotland and Wales, with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D or below. 

Installing insulation is one of several ways buildings can be made more efficient when it comes to energy usage and conservation. By reducing the amount of heat escaping from the building, less energy is needed to maintain temperatures indoors, thereby resulting in smaller electricity and gas bills for households. The addition of insulation also helps houses retain a comfortable temperature with greater consistency, providing a more pleasant living experience throughout the year for occupants.
